Why Huntervale exists.
Most hunting content online is recycled fluff. Huntervale is the site I wished existed when I started hunting — and started Googling every season, every tag, and every skill I didn't have yet.
The short version
Huntervale is run by one hunter — someone who spends the season in the woods, big game and small. I'm not an outfitter and I'm not a gear brand. I'm someone who reads the biology and the regulations, eats tag soup more often than I'd like, and got tired of hunting articles that say everything and nothing at once.
The plan: cover every species a real hunter actually pursues. Honest gear, honest seasons, real methods, and a clear answer to "how do I actually hunt this animal?"
How it started
I didn't grow up in a hunting family. My first season was a steep curve of hunter-ed courses, confusing tag rules, and a lot of sits that ended with nothing in the cooler. The animals I did finally take taught me far more than any article did.
So I started keeping notes. Which optics earned their price. Which scouting work actually paid off. Which seasons and conditions turned a slow week around. After a few years of notes I had enough for a real site — so here it is.

- 50 game species profiles — 25 big game and 25 birds & small game. Identification, habitat, seasons, methods, gear, shot placement, and where to find them.
- 50+ how-to guides — scouting, gear, optics, methods, field-dressing, and conservation. Updated as seasons change.
- No fluff sections — no "10 reasons hunting connects you to nature" filler. If a topic doesn't need 2000 words, it doesn't get 2000 words.
Editorial principles
- Independent. No brand pays for placement. Recommendations are based on real hunting, value, and how well gear actually works.
- Honest about difficulty. If a species or hunt is genuinely hard, we say so — instead of calling everything "achievable."
- Ethics first. Legal, regulated, fair-chase hunting only. We cover conservation, hunter education, and respect for the animal.
- Affiliate-honest. Some links earn us a commission — disclosed on every page. Commission never influences a recommendation.
How we make money
Huntervale is reader-supported. If you click an affiliate link and end up buying, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That's it. No display ad clutter, no sponsored posts, no email-list selling. If the affiliate model ever conflicts with honesty, honesty wins.
Who's behind it
